Background

After months of watching innovation after innovation pop up during the NFT craze in 2021, I decided it was my turn to give it a go. With emerging technology involving AI and ML paired with new forms of art, I noticed there was a gap that needed to be filled in the audio-visual space.

I set out to build a team and a product to disrupt the space and eventually came just short of the end zone. Nevertheless, we made a name for ourselves and planted our flag in the NFT world by changing the way people looked at art and music. I’ll dive into design below, but you can read more about the team I put together and our goals in my Medium article.

The Product

If you’re not familiar with generative art, here’s a quick rundown - it’s a randomized outcome based on buckets of variables. When you run the code to create the outcome, one variable from each bucket is pulled to combine into one final product, in this case the music or the art for the project.

Nobody at the time had created (enjoyable) generative music paired with evolving art before and I set out to be the first. Below are a few examples of the music and artwork we were able to generate using AI and ML.

First Generative Audio Test

This was our first go at pulling everything together. We had over a dozen buckets with different instrumental variables. Drum loops, bass loops, and piano loops just to name a few. When we went to generate an outcome, one of each bucket would be pulled together to create something like this.

Second Generative Audio Test

After a few tweaks, we engineered the sound and coding to ensure there would be no bad tracks when it all came together. We ended up creating thousands of generative samples that all ended up sounding as smooth as this.

Branding

I wanted to create a brand that felt nostalgic but also progressive at the same time. Something creative but sleek. I wanted something as rigid as Tetris blocks to hint at the idea of building something, while also including the fluidity of sound waves.

After several iterations, you can see the progression of how we landed on the final logo. We wanted something recognizable that looked as good on sweatshirts as it did on screens.

Website Design

The website was created with a few goals in mind— introduce our NFT collection, give access to our communities, and showcase our talents. Everything was done in house, from iconography to Ethereum development. Here's what we put together:

Conclusion

I was able to make major waves in the NFT space in a short period of time and I learned a ton about Design, blockchain development, social engineering and most importantly how to run an extremely agile startup-like project. We amassed >15k unique community members across Twitter and Discord in just two months and set new precedents in the art and music world. I spoke on panels in front of thousands of eager listeners and got to share stages with famous musicians who still use our methodologies today.
