Problem

The acute care and senior living industry lacks heavily in accessible tech that can benefit both front end and back end users. Learning about and connecting with facilities can be cumbersome and daunting.

Solution

Create an AI chat agent that can field user inquiries, book tours, and act as the 24/7 receptionist for the healthcare space.

Responsibilities

As the co-founder I've worn many hats spanning across several verticals, though I mainly focused on managing the design and lifecycle for the chat agent, dashboard, and website.

Methodology

Methodologies used included user personas, user/task flows, site mapping, wireframing, user testing, and information architecture.

Background

The healthcare space lags behind in progression as far as tech goes and we wanted to find a way to help facilities provide better care for their patients, while also generating more conversions on the business side. Acute care facilities and senior living home websites can be tough to navigate for those looking to get care for loved ones. It can be a cumbersome experience, both internally and externally, that typically requires a human-centered approach. Check out the live version at alitahealth.ai.

The Product

Alita's core product, our chat agent, is an AI driven companion that can do it all. Whether someone wants to book a tour, request information, or speak with a live agent, alita can help with any general task a user would want to complete. It is a simple chat agent that we coded to be easily implemented into existing websites, it will scrape all the data which it uses to output information to incoming inquiries. Along with the agent for the front end, our customers are given a customizable back end dashboard that will provide alerts and real-time data based on incoming requests from the agent. I was tasked with designing the website, the agent and the dashboards, all while managing the product lifecycles.

Branding

Due to the demographic of the users, it was important to create something relatable, yet still progressive. We wanted the experience to be friendly and to provide a sense of security. Blue is a common color found in the healthcare space for these reasons, so I played around with different blues and landed on pink as our tertiary color.

For the typography, I landed on a font (Open Sans) that was rounded enough to be progressive, but still rigid enough to convey professionalism.

For the logo, we wanted something simple that conveyed modernity and complexity. The use of AI and complex networks is prevalent in our product so I immediately thought about combining a heart with some sort of network type feel.

I had this vision in my head of a heart with a network inside of it. I started small by drawing the heart and got more complex with the inside of it, but in the end maintained a single logo that conveyed our message.

Chat Agent

Following industry standard, I created a simple, noninvasive chat agent that lives in the bottom right of the website its implemented on. Using chatGPT and other LLM's, it is able to field just about any request and then use the data from the website to answer. Using the colors I chose for our company, the contrasting blues make it easy to understand who each message belongs to.

Website Design

The overall goal of the website is to educate customers about our product and lead them to book demos. I expanded on our logo for the centerpiece of the site with simple CTA's. I did two main things to break up some of the white space, firstly I added some blurred ellipses and secondly, I broke the site up in sections using one of the blues and lowering the opacity.

Conclusion

It was another great challenge to dive into a space I wasn't familiar with. I've learned a ton about the healthcare and health-tech space and it's been rewarding seeing the results. So far we've seen a ton of conversions and great feedback on both the product and the site. Customers have been thrilled with Alita, as it saves them money, time, and generates more business for them.

Competitive Analysis

The idea for Alita stemmed out of necessity. There isn't anything in the market to compete with us which is why we chose to embark on this journey. There are plenty of effective chatbots in other spaces that we drew inspiration from, though the market is extremely young in the healthcare space.
